Damaged milk teeth

  • Preserving damaged milk teeth

Keeping children’s milk teeth is very important in the development of their mouths.  If a child loses a milk tooth early they are more likely to require corrective orthodontic work in the future.  By making visits to the dentist more fun, we hope to prevent potential problems or pain that a child may otherwise suffer from by giving appropriate diet, tooth brushing, flossing and fluoride advice when children attend for their checks.

If a young child does require treatment we always aim to treat them in the practice using the latest evidence-based techniques to preserve their milk teeth for as long as possible.  This often involves the use of pre-formed metal crowns for back teeth, which fit snugly over the top and around the sides.  We call them shiny hats and the children are very proud of them!
